Does life ever get in the way of your best laid plans?

What do I mean by “life gets in the way”?

Definition: Anything that alters your daily schedule in a big way.

  • Illness – your own or a family member
  • Moving from one home to another
  • Weddings
  • Death of a close family member or friend
  • Fill in the blank

When life does get in the way of your plans, you must simplify, simplify, simplify!

  • Let go of as much responsibility as you can.
  • Delegate the rest.
  • Simplify what you’re left with.

Don’t feel selfish. Take time to care for yourself.

If you’ve ever flown on an airplane, you know that the stewards instruct you to put the oxygen mask on yourself first…then on a child.

Your gut may tell you to put the mask on the child first. In the time that you do, you could run out of oxygen or be unable to think clearly.

Care for yourself first so you are able to care for the child.

Care for yourself until life returns to some semblance of normal.

What do you do to make life work when “life gets in the way”?

  1. I think another expression is “Life is what happens while we are making plans”. Receiving each day as a gift and giving thanks for a Heavenly Father that has ordained each day no matter what it brings. There is comfort in knowing the ordained plan is eternally more perfect than anything I can come up with.

    • Well said Ruth! Maybe it just SEEMS that life gets in the way? Maybe that’s all part of the plan… Appreciate your words of wisdom. ~Karen
